How the professionals splice mouldings
This is how you achieve a clean, almost invisible joint in your moulding:
1. Mitre the mouldings at 45°
Cut both mouldings at a 45° angle so they meet in an angled joint. A mitred joint is far less visible than a straight cut.

2. Apply wood glue generously to the joint
Apply wood glue generously to both cut surfaces. Don’t worry about excess glue – any surplus can easily be wiped away later.

3. Press together, let dry and sand lightly
Press the mouldings together firmly so the profile aligns properly. Allow the glue to dry completely. Once dry, sand lightly with fine sandpaper until the surface feels smooth.
Tip: Only light sanding is needed – the goal is to smooth the joint, not remove the profile.
